About Psalms
Psalms is a collection gathered over centuries and arranged into five books. It contains almost every posture a person can take before God: adoration, complaint, confession, gratitude, and unvarnished grief. Many are attributed to David, others to Asaph, the sons of Korah and unnamed writers. Because they give words to feeling rather than describing it, the psalms have been the most memorised and most prayed part of Scripture.

- Psalm 23:1 — With the Lord as his shepherd, David is sure he will have everything he needs — the opening line of the Bible's best-loved psalm of trust.
- Psalm 27:1 — Because the Lord is his light, his rescuer and his stronghold, David asks who could possibly make him afraid.
- Psalm 30:5 — God's anger lasts only a moment but his favour lasts a lifetime; sorrow may linger through the night, but joy arrives with the morning.
- Psalm 34:18 — When a heart is broken and a spirit is crushed, the Lord draws close and rescues.
- Psalm 46:1 — God is the safe place and the strength of his people, a help that is always close at hand when trouble comes.
- Psalm 51:10 — After his great sin, David asks God to make his heart pure again and to give him a steady, faithful spirit.
- Psalm 55:22 — Hand your heavy load over to the Lord; he will carry you, and he will not let those who trust him fall.
- Psalm 84:11 — The Lord is like a sun and a shield to his people; he gives grace and honour, and holds back nothing good from those who live with integrity.
- Psalm 119:11 — The psalmist treasures God's word deep within, so that it guards him from sinning against God — the heart of why we memorize Scripture.
