Psalms 42
Open Word Bible
Like a doe that longs for running streams, I long for you, God, with all my being. I am thirsty for God, the living God. When may I come and stand before God’s face? Day and night I have fed on my tears, while all day long people ask me, “Where is your God?” I pour out my heart as I call these things to mind: how I walked with the crowd and led them up to God’s house, among shouts of joy and songs of thanks, a great crowd celebrating the feast. Why are you bent so low, my soul? Why this unrest inside me? Wait for God in hope; I will give him thanks again, for the rescue that comes from his presence. My God, I am bent low inside; so I will remember you here in the Jordan country and on the peaks of Hermon, on Mount Mizar. One deep calls out to another at the roar of your cascades; all your breaking waves and rollers have gone over my head. By day the LORD sends out his loyal love, and at night his song stays with me, a prayer to the God who gives me life. I cry out to God, my rock: “Why have you put me out of your mind? Why do I walk about dressed in grief while the enemy presses me hard?” My foes mock me with a taunt that crushes my bones, while all day long they ask me, “Where is your God?” Why are you bent so low, my soul? Why this unrest inside me? Wait for God in hope; I will give him thanks again, the one who saves me, my God.
