Psalms 83
Open Word Bible
God, do not rest! Do not keep silent, and do not sit idle, God! Look, your enemies are in an uproar; those who hate you hold their heads high. They are plotting slyly against your people and conspiring against those you treasure. They say, “Come, let us wipe them out so they are no longer a nation; let no one ever again remember the name of Israel.” They have agreed together with one mind; they are making a treaty against you, Edom’s tent-dwellers, the Ishmaelites, Moab and the Hagrites, Gebal, Ammon and Amalek, Philistia and the people who live in Tyre. Assyria too has joined them; they lend their strength to the descendants of Lot. Selah Treat them the way you treated Midian, the way you treated Sisera and Jabin at the Kishon valley, who were wiped out at Endor and became manure on the ground. Deal with their nobles as with Oreb and Zeeb, and with all their chiefs as with Zebah and Zalmunna, who said, “Let us take God’s pasturelands as our own.” My God, make them like a tumbleweed spinning away, like husks driven by the wind. As a fire eats through a forest, as flames set the mountainsides alight, so hunt them down with your storm and fill them with terror by your gale. Load their faces with disgrace, so that they come seeking your name, LORD. May they be shamed and terrified for all time; may they be disgraced and come to ruin, and let them come to know that your name is the LORD, that only you are Most High over the whole earth.
