Psalms 59

Rescue me from my enemies, my God; lift me high out of reach of those who rise against me. Rescue me from those who do evil; save me from men who shed blood. Look, they lie in ambush for my life; powerful men band together against me, though I have not rebelled or sinned, LORD. Through no fault of mine they rush to take up their places. Wake up, come to meet me, and look! LORD God of Armies, God of Israel, rise up and call all the nations to account; have no pity on any who plot evil in their treachery. Selah At nightfall they return, snarling like dogs as they roam the city. Look how their mouths gush with insults; their lips are swords, for they say, “Who will hear?” But you, LORD, laugh at them; you hold all the nations in derision. Against his strength I will keep watch for you, for God is my high fortress. My God of loyal love will go before me; God will let me look down on my foes. Do not kill them outright, in case my people forget; by your power send them staggering and bring them low, Lord, our shield. Every word from their lips is sin in their mouths; let them be snared by their own pride, for the cursing and lying they speak. Destroy them in your anger, destroy them until they are gone, so that people will know that God rules over Jacob to the ends of the earth. Selah At nightfall they return, snarling like dogs as they roam the city. They roam about for food, and if they are not filled, they stay out all night. But I will sing of your might, and at daybreak I will shout for joy over your loyal love, for you have been my high fortress, a place to flee to when I was in trouble. My Strength, I will make music to you, for God is my high fortress, my God of loyal love.
