Psalms 77

Open Word Bible

I raise my voice to God and cry out; I raise my voice to God, so that he will listen to me. When trouble came I looked for the Lord; all night I kept my hands raised and did not tire, and I would take no comfort. I think of God and groan; I ponder, and my spirit sinks. Selah You would not let my eyelids close; I was too shaken to say a word. I turned my mind to days gone by, to years long past. I call to mind the songs I sang at night; I talk with my own heart, and my spirit searches for answers: Will the Lord turn away for all time, and never again show kindness? Is his loyal love gone for good? Is his promise finished for every generation to come? Has God forgotten how to show mercy? Has he let anger lock away his compassion? Selah Then I said: This is what pierces me, that the Most High’s right hand is not what it was. I will call to mind what the LORD has done; yes, I will remember the marvels you worked long ago. I will reflect on all your work and turn over in my mind what you have done. God, your way is holy. Is there a god anywhere as great as God? You are the God whose deeds are marvels; you have shown the nations how strong you are. With your strong arm you set your people free, the families of Jacob and Joseph. Selah God, when the waters caught sight of you, when the waters saw you, they twisted in fear; even the deep sea quaked. The clouds poured down rain, the skies rumbled with thunder, and your arrows flashed this way and that. Your thunder rumbled in the whirlwind; flashes of lightning lit the world; the earth shook and quaked. Your road went through the sea and your track through the deep waters, but no trace of your steps could be seen. Like a shepherd with his sheep you guided your people, through Moses and Aaron.
