Consider the kind of love the Father has given us: we are called children of God, and we really are his children. The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him.

Even before the world was founded, God chose us in Christ, so that we would be holy and without blemish before him in love.

You are God’s chosen people, holy and loved by him. So put on, like clothing, a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.

But in all of this we are winning, and winning by far, through the one who loved us.

So if the Son frees you, you will be truly free.

But we hold our citizenship in heaven, and it is from there that we are eagerly waiting for a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ,

You are the light of the world. A town built on a hilltop cannot be hidden.

You are the salt for the earth. But if salt goes flat, what can give it back its saltiness? It is good for nothing anymore but to be thrown out and walked on.

But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people God has claimed as his own, so that you may declare the great deeds of the one who called you out of the darkness into his amazing light.

For we are God’s own work. In Christ Jesus he created us for good works, which God made ready in advance so that we would live our lives doing them.

So we are ambassadors who speak for Christ, and it is God himself who makes his appeal through us. Speaking for Christ, we plead with you: be reconciled to God.

so that his glorious grace would be praised, the grace he has freely given us in the Beloved.

I give you thanks, for the way I was made is awe-inspiring and marvelous. What you make is wonderful, and deep within I know it well.

Do not worry about anything. Instead, in everything, bring your requests to God through prayer and petition, with thanksgiving. And God’s peace, which is beyond all our understanding, will stand guard over your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Do not be afraid, for I am with you; do not glance about in alarm, for I am your God. I give you strength; yes, I bring you help; yes, I hold you up with my right hand, the hand of my righteousness.

So do not be troubled about tomorrow; tomorrow can take care of its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.

The LORD stays close to those whose hearts are broken, and rescues those whose spirits are crushed.

Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid of them or tremble before them, for the LORD your God is the one who goes with you. He will not let you go, and he will not abandon you.”

And he said to them, “Go, eat rich food and drink sweet drinks, and send portions to anyone who has nothing ready. For this day is holy to our Lord. Do not be grieved, for the joy of the LORD is your stronghold.”

Peace I leave with you; it is my own peace that I give you. I do not give the way the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled, and do not let them give way to fear.

Blessed is the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the merciful Father and the God from whom all comfort comes. He comforts us in every hardship we face, so that we in turn can comfort people facing any hardship, passing on to them the same comfort God gives us.

Have I not given you this command? Be strong and courageous. Do not tremble with fear or lose heart, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.”

For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes in him will not be put to shame.”

Why are you bent so low, my soul? Why this unrest inside me? Wait for God in hope; I will give him thanks again, the one who saves me, my God.

He heals those whose hearts are crushed and bandages their injuries.

“I knew you before I shaped you in the womb; I set you apart before you came out of the womb; I have given you to the nations as a prophet.”

Whatever happens, give thanks; this is what God wants for you in Christ Jesus.

Fear of what people may do is a trap, but whoever trusts in the LORD is kept safe.

Be sure of this, my dear brothers and sisters. Every person should be eager to listen, slow to speak, and slow to anger, for human anger does not accomplish the righteousness of God.

Do not let this present age press you into its mold, but be changed through and through as your mind is made new. Then you will be able to test and recognize the will of God: what is good and pleasing and perfect.

and every proud tower raised against the knowledge of God. We capture every thought and lead it away to obey Christ.

Instead, the instruction of the LORD is their delight, and they recite it quietly to themselves day and night.

Fix your thoughts on what is above, not on what is on earth.

But you must ask in faith, without wavering. Anyone who wavers is like a wave out at sea, driven by the wind and thrown this way and that.

God is the God of peace, not of disorder, as is true in all the churches of God’s holy people.

For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but a spirit of power and love and sound judgment.

Finally, brothers and sisters: all that is true, all that is honorable, all that is just, all that is pure, all that is lovely, all that is well spoken of—if there is any virtue, anything that deserves praise—let your minds dwell on these things.

The mind that is held steady you guard in peace, unbroken peace, for it relies on you.

For “who has ever known the mind of the Lord well enough to instruct him?” But we have the mind of Christ.

More than anything you protect, protect your heart, because the whole course of your life flows out of it.

Keep a clear head. Stay awake. The devil, your opponent, roams about like a lion that roars, hunting for someone to swallow up.

God, look deep into me and know my heart; put me to the test and know my restless thoughts.

Everyone has sinned, and all come short of God’s glory.

This is what I mean: walk by the Spirit, and you will never carry out what the flesh desires.

The testing that has gripped you is only what all people face. But God is faithful, and he will not allow the testing to go past your strength. Along with the testing he will also make the way out, so that you are able to hold up under it.

Pride comes first, then the crash; a haughty spirit, then the fall.

But I tell you, a man who looks at a woman with the aim of wanting her for himself has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

Then he said to them, “Take care! Keep yourselves from every kind of greed. Even when someone has more than enough, life does not come from the things a person owns.”

Dear children, guard yourselves against idols.

Watch over one another, so that none of you comes short of God’s grace, no bitter root shoots up and causes trouble, defiling many through it,

Wherever jealousy and selfish ambition are found, disorder follows, and every kind of evil deed.

Sin will not be lord over you, for you do not live under the law but under grace.

You were taught to strip off the old self, the self of your former way of life, which is being ruined by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the spirit of your minds; and to put on the new self, created in God’s likeness, in the righteousness and holiness that come from the truth.

Run away from the passions of youth, and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, together with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart.

So place yourselves under God. Stand against the devil, and he will run from you.

We know this: our old self was nailed to the cross with him, so that the body of sin would be stripped of its power and we would no longer serve sin as slaves.
