The Heart & Emotions

Scripture speaks tenderly into the heart’s whole range — fear and comfort, grief and joy, anxiety and peace. Cast all your anxiety on him, because he cares for you. These verses bring God’s nearness to whatever you are feeling.

Anxiety — Philippians 4:6-7

In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.

Fear — Isaiah 41:10

Don’t you be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness.

Worry — Matthew 6:34

Therefore don’t be anxious for tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Each day’s own evil is sufficient.

Grief — Psalms 34:18

Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit.

Loneliness — Deuteronomy 31:6

Be strong and courageous. Don’t be afraid or scared of them; for Yahweh your God himself is who goes with you. He will not fail you nor forsake you.”

Joy — Nehemiah 8:10

Then he said to them, “Go your way. Eat the fat, drink the sweet, and send portions to him for whom nothing is prepared; for this day is holy to our Lord. Don’t be grieved; for the joy of Yahweh is your strength.”

Peace — John 14:27

Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you; not as the world gives, give I to you. Don’t let your heart be troubled, neither let it be fearful.

Comfort — 2 Corinthians 1:3-4

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort; who comforts us in all our affliction, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, through the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.

Discouragement — Joshua 1:9

Haven’t I commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Don’t be afraid, neither be dismayed: for Yahweh your God is with you wherever you go.”

Shame — Romans 10:11

For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes in him will not be disappointed.”

Despair — Psalms 42:11

Why are you in despair, my soul? Why are you disturbed within me? Hope in God! For I shall still praise him, the saving help of my countenance, and my God.

A Broken Heart — Psalms 147:3

He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds.

Insecurity — Jeremiah 1:5

“Before I formed you in the belly, I knew you. Before you came out of the womb, I sanctified you. I have appointed you a prophet to the nations.”

Gratitude — 1 Thessalonians 5:18

In everything give thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus toward you.

Fear of Man — Proverbs 29:25

The fear of man proves to be a snare, but whoever puts his trust in Yahweh is kept safe.

Anger — James 1:19-20

So, then, my beloved brothers, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger; for the anger of man doesn’t produce the righteousness of God.
