14 Bible Verses About Idolatry

You shall have no other gods besides me. You shall not make yourself a carved idol, nor a figure of anything in the heavens overhead, on the earth below, or in the waters beneath the earth.

So then, my dear friends, run from idolatry.

So put to death whatever in you belongs to the earth: sexual immorality, impurity, lustful passion, evil desire, and greed, which is idolatry.

No one can serve two masters. Either they will hate one and love the other, or they will be loyal to one and look down on the other. You cannot serve both God and money.

You shall neither bow to them nor serve them. For I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God. I bring the guilt of fathers upon their children, upon the third and the fourth generation of those who hate me,

Their idols are made of silver and gold, shaped by human hands. They have a mouth, yet say nothing; they have eyes, yet see nothing. They have ears, yet hear nothing; they have a nose, yet smell nothing. They have hands, yet feel nothing; feet, yet never walk; no sound comes from their throats. The people who make them will end up like them, and so will everyone who relies on them.

Those who devote themselves to useless idols abandon their loyal love.

I am the LORD; that is my name. My glory I will not hand over to anyone else, nor the praise due to me to carved images.

They traded the truth about God for the lie. They bowed down to the creation and served it, instead of the one who created it, who is blessed forever. Amen.

Or do you not know that people who do wrong will not receive God’s kingdom as their inheritance? Make no mistake: the sexually immoral, idolaters, adulterers, men who take the passive part in sex with men, men who go to bed with males, thieves, the greedy, drunkards, abusive people, and swindlers: none of these will receive God’s kingdom as their inheritance.

You must not go after other gods, any of the gods of the peoples that surround you.

The works of the flesh are plain to see: sexual immorality, impurity, indecency, idolatry, sorcery, hostility, quarreling, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish rivalry, divisions, factions, envy, drunken bouts, wild partying, and other things like these. I am telling you now, as I told you before: people who live this way will not inherit the kingdom of God.

What use is an idol once its maker has carved it, or a metal image, a teacher of lies? Its maker trusts in what he himself has shaped when he fashions idols that cannot speak.
