13 Bible Verses About Oppression

The LORD is a fortress on the heights for those who are crushed, a safe height in times of trouble.

The LORD acts to set things right and gives justice to all who are crushed by others.

Again I looked at all the oppression that goes on under the sun. I saw the tears of the oppressed, with no one to comfort them. Power was on the side of their oppressors, and there was no one to comfort them.

Do not oppress the widow or the orphan, the outsider or the poor. And do not plot evil against one another in your hearts.

Do not rob the poor just because they are poor, and do not crush the needy in court, for the LORD will take up their cause and take the life of those who plunder them.

“The poor are being robbed and the needy are groaning, so now I will get up,” says the LORD. “I will bring them to the safety they long for.”

May he defend the poor among the people and bring rescue to needy families; may he break the oppressor in pieces.

Woe to those who make wicked statutes, and to the scribes who keep writing out misery, to push the needy away from a fair hearing and strip the poor among my people of their rights, so that widows become their spoil and orphans their loot.

Whoever oppresses the poor insults the One who made them, but kindness to the needy honors him.

The LORD says this: Practice justice and righteousness. Rescue anyone who has been robbed from the power of the oppressor. Do not mistreat the outsider, the orphan or the widow, do not use violence against them, and do not shed innocent blood in this place.

Therefore, because you trample on the poor and force them to hand over their grain, you have built houses of cut stone, but you will not live in them; you have planted fine vineyards, but you will not drink their wine.
