Leviticus 15
Open Word Bible
The LORD spoke to Moses and Aaron. He said, “Speak to the Israelites and tell them: ‘When any man has a discharge from his body, the discharge makes him unclean. This is the uncleanness his discharge brings: whether his body lets the discharge flow or it is stopped up, either way he is unclean. Any bed that the man with the discharge lies on becomes unclean, and so does any object he sits on. Whoever touches his bed is to wash their clothes and bathe in water, and they remain unclean until evening. Whoever sits on anything the man with the discharge has sat on is to wash their clothes and bathe in water, and they remain unclean until evening. Whoever touches the body of the man with the discharge is to wash their clothes and bathe in water, and they remain unclean until evening. When the man with the discharge spits on someone who is clean, that person is to wash their clothes and bathe in water, and they remain unclean until evening. Any saddle the man with the discharge rides on becomes unclean. Anyone who touches anything that was under him will be unclean until evening, and whoever carries such things is to wash their clothes and bathe in water, and they remain unclean until evening. If the man with the discharge touches someone without first rinsing his hands in water, that person is to wash their clothes and bathe in water, and they remain unclean until evening. If the man with the discharge touches a clay pot, it is to be broken; if he touches a wooden container, it is to be rinsed in water. When the man with the discharge is healed of it, he is to count seven days for his cleansing. Then he is to wash his clothes and bathe his body in fresh water, and he will be clean. On the eighth day he is to get two turtledoves or two young pigeons and bring them before the LORD to the entrance of the tent of meeting, where he gives them to the priest. The priest is to offer one bird as a sin offering and the other as a burnt offering, and so make atonement for him before the LORD on account of his discharge.
If semen comes out of a man, he is to bathe his whole body in water, and he remains unclean until evening. If semen gets on any piece of clothing or leather, it is to be washed in water and will stay unclean until evening.
When a man lies with a woman and semen is released, both of them are to bathe in water, and they remain unclean until evening. When a woman has a discharge, and what flows from her body is blood, her monthly period keeps her unclean for seven days. Anyone who touches her will be unclean until evening. During her period, whatever she lies on and whatever she sits on becomes unclean. Whoever touches her bed is to wash their clothes and bathe in water, and they remain unclean until evening. Whoever touches any object she has sat on is to wash their clothes and bathe in water, and they remain unclean until evening. Even if something is lying on her bed or on the seat she uses, whoever touches it will be unclean until evening. If a man actually lies with her and the impurity of her period gets on him, he will be unclean seven days. Every bed he lies on will also become unclean.
A woman may have a flow of blood for many days when it is not the time of her period, or a flow that goes on past her period. All the days of that unclean flow she is to be as she is in the days of her period: she is unclean. All the time the flow lasts, any bed she lies on is to be treated like her bed during her period, and any object she sits on becomes unclean, as it would during her period. Whoever touches these things becomes unclean. They are to wash their clothes and bathe in water, and they remain unclean until evening. Once her flow has stopped, she is to count seven days; then she will be clean. On the eighth day she is to get two turtledoves or two young pigeons and bring them to the priest at the entrance of the tent of meeting. The priest is to offer one bird as a sin offering and the other as a burnt offering, and so make atonement for her before the LORD on account of her unclean flow.’ You must keep the Israelites apart from their uncleanness, so that it does not bring death on them when they defile my tabernacle, which is among them. These are the instructions for the man with a discharge, for a man whose semen comes out from him and makes him unclean, for the woman who is unwell with her monthly period, for anyone, male or female, who has a discharge, and for the man who lies with a woman while she is unclean.”
