Leviticus 12
Open Word Bible
The LORD spoke to Moses. He said, “Speak to the Israelites and tell them: ‘When a woman becomes pregnant and gives birth to a boy, she will be unclean for seven days. She will be unclean just as she is during her monthly period. On the eighth day the boy is to be circumcised. She is then to remain thirty-three days in the time of her blood purification. Until those days are over, she must not touch anything holy or come into the sanctuary. If she gives birth to a girl, she will be unclean for two weeks, as she is during her monthly period. She is then to remain sixty-six days in the time of her blood purification. When the days of her purification are over, whether for a son or a daughter, she is to bring to the priest, at the entrance of the tent of meeting, a lamb a year old for a burnt offering and a young pigeon or a turtledove for a sin offering. He is to present it before the LORD and make atonement for her, and then she will be clean from her flow of blood. This is the law for a woman who gives birth to a boy or a girl. If she cannot afford a lamb, she is to take two turtledoves or two young pigeons, one for a burnt offering and the other for a sin offering. The priest will make atonement for her, and she will be clean.’”
