Trials, Mission & Eternity

The Christian life holds both suffering and hope, both battle and mission, all under the sure promise of eternity with God. Scripture does not hide our trials but meets them with God’s nearness, our calling to the nations, and the kingdom that has no end. These verses lift your eyes to the joy set before you.

Trials, Suffering & Healing

Suffering — Romans 8:18

For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which will be revealed toward us.

Trials — James 1:2-3

Count it all joy, my brothers, when you fall into various temptations, knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance.

Affliction — 2 Corinthians 4:17

For our light affliction, which is for the moment, works for us more and more exceedingly an eternal weight of glory;

Healing — Jeremiah 17:14

Heal me, O Yahweh, and I shall be healed; save me, and I shall be saved: for you are my praise.

Sickness — James 5:14-15

Is any among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the assembly, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord, and the prayer of faith will heal him who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up. If he has committed sins, he will be forgiven.

Weakness — 2 Corinthians 12:9

He has said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Most gladly therefore I will rather glory in my weaknesses, that the power of Christ may rest on me.

The Valley — Psalms 23:4

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me. Your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

Sustained — Psalms 55:22

Cast your burden on Yahweh, and he will sustain you. He will never allow the righteous to be moved.

Persecution — 2 Timothy 3:12

Yes, and all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution.

Count It Joy — James 1:2

Count it all joy, my brothers, when you fall into various temptations,

Refined by Fire — 1 Peter 1:7

that the proof of your faith, which is more precious than gold that perishes even though it is tested by fire, may be found to result in praise, glory, and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ—

He Heals the Brokenhearted — Psalms 147:3

He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds.

Cast Your Cares — 1 Peter 5:7

casting all your worries on him, because he cares for you.

Spiritual Warfare & Protection

Spiritual Warfare — Ephesians 6:12

For our wrestling is not against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world’s rulers of the darkness of this age, and against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places.

The Armor of God — Ephesians 6:11

Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

Refuge — Psalms 46:1

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

Protection — Psalms 91:1-2

He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of Yahweh, “He is my refuge and my fortress; my God, in whom I trust.”

Deliverance — Psalms 34:17

The righteous cry, and Yahweh hears, and delivers them out of all their troubles.

God Our Shield — Psalms 28:7

Yahweh is my strength and my shield. My heart has trusted in him, and I am helped. Therefore my heart greatly rejoices. With my song I will thank him.

Greater Is He — 1 John 4:4

You are of God, little children, and have overcome them; because greater is he who is in you than he who is in the world.

The Sword of the Spirit — Ephesians 6:17

And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God;

No Weapon Shall Prosper — Isaiah 54:17

No weapon that is formed against you will prevail; and you will condemn every tongue that rises against you in judgment. This is the heritage of the servants of Yahweh, and their righteousness which is of me,” says Yahweh.

Under His Wings — Psalms 91:4

He will cover you with his feathers. Under his wings you will take refuge. His faithfulness is your shield and rampart.

Victory in Christ — 1 Corinthians 15:57

But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Firm in the Faith — 1 Peter 5:9

Withstand him steadfast in your faith, knowing that your brothers who are in the world are undergoing the same sufferings.

Mission & the Nations

The Great Commission — Matthew 28:19-20

Go, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I commanded you. Behold, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.

Evangelism — Mark 16:15

He said to them, “Go into all the world, and preach the Good News to the whole creation.

The Nations — Psalms 96:3

Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous works among all the peoples.

The Harvest — Matthew 9:37-38

Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest indeed is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Pray therefore that the Lord of the harvest will send out laborers into his harvest.”

Witnessing — Acts 1:8

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you. You will be witnesses to me in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the uttermost parts of the earth.”

Go and Tell — Mark 5:19

He didn’t allow him, but said to him, “Go to your house, to your friends, and tell them what great things the Lord has done for you, and how he had mercy on you.”

Boldness — Acts 4:29

Now, Lord, look at their threats, and grant to your servants to speak your word with all boldness,

Every Tribe and Tongue — Revelation 7:9

After these things I looked, and behold, a great multitude, which no man could number, out of every nation and of all tribes, peoples, and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, dressed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands.

Beautiful Feet — Romans 10:15

And how will they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the Good News of peace, who bring glad tidings of good things!”

How Will They Hear — Romans 10:14

Light to the Nations — Isaiah 49:6

yes, he says, “It is too light a thing that you should be my servant to raise up the tribes of Jacob, and to restore the preserved of Israel: I will also give you for a light to the nations, that you may be my salvation to the end of the earth.”

Ready to Give an Answer — 1 Peter 3:15

Laborers for the Harvest — Luke 10:2

Compelled by Love — 2 Corinthians 5:14

For the love of Christ constrains us; because we judge thus, that one died for all, therefore all died.

Heaven, Eternity & the Kingdom

Heaven — John 14:2-3

In my Father’s house are many homes. If it weren’t so, I would have told you. I am going to prepare a place for you. If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and will receive you to myself; that where I am, you may be there also.

The Kingdom of God — Matthew 6:33

But seek first God’s Kingdom, and his righteousness; and all these things will be given to you as well.

The Return of Christ — Acts 1:11

who also said, “You men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into the sky? This Jesus, who was received up from you into the sky will come back in the same way as you saw him going into the sky.”

Judgment Day — 2 Corinthians 5:10

For we must all be revealed before the judgment seat of Christ; that each one may receive the things in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad.

The New Creation — Revelation 21:5

He who sits on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.” He said, “Write, for these words of God are faithful and true.”

Rewards — 1 Corinthians 3:14

If any man’s work remains which he built on it, he will receive a reward.

Everlasting Joy — Isaiah 35:10

The Yahweh’s ransomed ones will return, and come with singing to Zion; and everlasting joy will be on their heads. They will obtain gladness and joy, and sorrow and sighing will flee away.”

No More Tears — Revelation 21:4

He will wipe away from them every tear from their eyes. Death will be no more; neither will there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain, any more. The first things have passed away.”

The New Jerusalem — Revelation 21:2

I saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared like a bride adorned for her husband.

Crowns — 2 Timothy 4:8

From now on, there is stored up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will give to me on that day; and not to me only, but also to all those who have loved his appearing.

We Shall See Him — 1 John 3:2

Beloved, now we are children of God, and it is not yet revealed what we will be. But we know that, when he is revealed, we will be like him; for we will see him just as he is.

Reigning with Christ — 2 Timothy 2:12

If we endure, we will also reign with him. If we deny him, he also will deny us.

A Place Prepared — John 14:3

If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and will receive you to myself; that where I am, you may be there also.

Forever with the Lord — 1 Thessalonians 4:17

then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air. So we will be with the Lord forever.
