In him we too have been claimed as God’s own portion. We were marked out for this beforehand by the purpose of God, who works out everything as his will determines,
We know that, for people who love God, all things work together and lead to good. They are the ones called in keeping with his purpose.
For in him everything in heaven and on earth was created, the seen and the unseen, whether thrones or dominions, rulers or authorities. Everything has been created through him and for him. He exists before all things, and all things are held together in him.
Whatever the LORD chooses to do, he does it, in the heavens, on the earth, in the seas and in all the ocean depths.
He changes times and seasons; he deposes kings and installs kings. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to those with insight.
From the start I announce how things will end, and from ages past what has not yet happened. I say that my plan will stand and that I will carry out all that I desire.
The LORD has made everything for its own end, even the wicked for the day of disaster.
For all things are from him and through him and for him. To him be glory forever! Amen.
The LORD’s purpose stands firm forever, and what he has planned in his heart lasts through every generation.
