12 Bible Verses About The Potter and the Clay

“House of Israel, can I not do with you as this potter does? declares the LORD. As the clay is in the potter’s hand, so you are in my hand, house of Israel.

But who are you, a mere human being, to answer back to God? Will what was shaped say to the one who shaped it, “Why did you make me this way?” Has the potter no right over the clay? From one and the same lump he may make one pot for honored use and another for common use.

How you turn everything on its head! Is the potter to be counted the same as the clay? Should the thing that was made say of its maker, “He did not make me”? Should the vessel say of the one who shaped it, “He has no sense”?

I give you thanks, for the way I was made is awe-inspiring and marvelous. What you make is wonderful, and deep within I know it well.

Your hands shaped me and made me; and now you turn around and destroy me completely. Remember that you molded me like clay; will you now turn me back to dust?

Woe to anyone who argues with the one who shaped him, one shard among the shards of earthenware! Does the clay ask its potter, “What do you think you are making?” Does your handiwork say of you, “He has no hands”?

Be sure of this: the LORD is God! He is the one who made us, and we belong to him. We are his people, the flock he pastures.

Is this how you repay the LORD, you foolish and senseless people? Is he not your father, who brought you into being, who made you and set you firmly in place?

Then the LORD God shaped the man out of dust from the ground. He breathed the breath of life into his nostrils, and the man became a living being.

Look, before God I am just as you are; I too was shaped from clay.

all who are called by my name, each one I created for my glory, each one I formed, yes, each one I made.”
