What you received was not a spirit of slavery that would put you back under fear. You received the Spirit of adoption as children, and in the Spirit we call out, “Abba, Father!”
And since you are children, God has sent out the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, and the Spirit cries, “Abba, Father!”
He said, “Abba, Father, for you all things are possible. Remove this cup from me. Yet let it be what you will, not what I will.”
The Spirit himself joins our own spirit in testifying that we are God’s children.
So this is how you should pray: ‘Our Father in heaven, may your name be kept holy.
Jesus said to her, “Do not keep holding on to me, because I have not yet ascended to the Father. Go instead to my brothers and sisters with this message: ‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father, my God and your God.’”
So you are no longer a slave but a child, and if you are a child, then you are also an heir, made so by God.
It is through him that both of us can approach the Father, in the one Spirit.
Consider the kind of love the Father has given us: we are called children of God, and we really are his children. The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him.
But to all who received him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God—
So let us, with confidence, approach the throne of grace, to receive mercy and to find grace that brings help just when we need it.
