Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

What Hebrews 4:16 means
A throne is not usually somewhere you approach with confidence. What changes it is the preceding verse: we have a high priest who has been tempted in every way as we are, and therefore sympathises with our weakness.
The invitation is specifically for the moment of need, not once you have sorted yourself out. Mercy for what is behind, grace for what is ahead. It is a useful verse to know when shame is arguing that now is the worst possible time to pray.
