‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’
He has said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Most gladly therefore I will rather glory in my weaknesses, that the power of Christ may rest on me.
What 2 Corinthians 12:9 means
Paul has asked three times for a thorn in the flesh to be removed. This is the answer he got — not the removal, but a reframing of what the weakness is for.
‘Sufficient’ is a modest word doing heavy work: enough, and enough for this. Paul’s response is stranger still — he decides to boast in weakness, because that is where Christ’s power rests on him. This is the verse for prayers that were answered differently than asked.
