12 Bible Verses About Counted Righteous

What does Scripture say? “Abraham believed God, and that was counted to him as righteousness.”

Abram put his trust in the LORD, and the LORD counted it to his credit as righteousness.

So it was with Abraham: he believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousness.

That is why “it was counted to him as righteousness.” The words “it was counted to him” were not written for Abraham alone, but for us as well. It will be counted to us who believe in the God who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead.

Is this blessing, then, only for the circumcised, or also for the uncircumcised? We have been saying that Abraham’s faith was counted to him as righteousness.

David says the same when he speaks of the happiness of the one whom God counts as righteous apart from works:

How blessed is anyone whose guilt the LORD does not hold against them, who has no deceit in their spirit!

So the Scripture came true that says, “Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness,” and he was called God’s friend.

Circumcision was given to him afterward as a sign, a seal on the righteousness that was already his by faith before he was circumcised. In this way he is father to everyone who believes without being circumcised, so that righteousness is counted to them.

and be found in him, with no righteousness of my own from keeping the law, but with the righteousness that comes through faith in Christ: righteousness from God, resting on faith.

Christ had never known sin, yet for our sake God made him to be sin, so that, united with him, we might become God’s righteousness.
