Numbers 15
Open Word Bible
The LORD spoke to Moses. He said, “Speak to the Israelites and tell them: ‘When you enter the land where you will live, the land I am giving you, and you present a food offering to the LORD from the herd or from the flock, a burnt offering or a sacrifice, whether to fulfill a vow, or as a freewill offering, or at your appointed festivals, to make a soothing aroma for the LORD, the one who brings the offering is to present to the LORD a grain offering of about 2 quarts of fine flour mixed with about a quart of oil. With the burnt offering or the sacrifice you are also to prepare about a quart of wine for the drink offering, for each lamb. For a ram, prepare a grain offering of about 4 quarts of fine flour mixed with about 1 1/4 quarts of oil. Also present about 1 1/4 quarts of wine for the drink offering, a soothing aroma to the LORD. When you prepare a young bull as a burnt offering, or as a sacrifice to fulfill a vow, or as a peace offering to the LORD, then with the young bull a grain offering is to be presented, about 6 quarts of fine flour mixed with about 2 quarts of oil. And present about 2 quarts of wine for the drink offering. It is a food offering, a soothing aroma to the LORD. This is what is to be done for each bull or ram, and for each lamb or young goat. However many animals you prepare, do this for each one of them. Everyone who is native-born is to do these things in this way when presenting a food offering, a soothing aroma to the LORD. If an outsider is living with you, or anyone else who is among you in generations to come, and presents a food offering, a soothing aroma to the LORD, they are to do it just as you do. For the assembly there is to be one statute for you and for the outsider who lives with you. It is a lasting statute through all your generations: before the LORD the outsider is to be just as you are. One law and one ruling are to apply to you and to the outsider who lives with you.’”
The LORD spoke to Moses. He said, “Speak to the Israelites and tell them: ‘When you come into the land where I am bringing you, then, when you eat the food that the land produces, you are to set aside a contribution for the LORD. From the first of your dough you are to set aside a loaf as a contribution. Set it aside just as you do the contribution from the threshing floor. Throughout your generations you are to give the LORD a contribution from the first of your dough.
Now suppose you go astray without meaning to and fail to keep all these commandments that the LORD spoke to Moses, everything that the LORD has commanded you through Moses, from the day the LORD first gave commands and on through your generations, if it was done unintentionally, without the congregation being aware of it, the whole congregation is to prepare one young bull as a burnt offering, a soothing aroma to the LORD, together with its grain offering and its drink offering as prescribed, and one male goat as a sin offering. The priest is to make atonement for the whole congregation of the Israelites, and they will be forgiven, because it was a mistake and they have brought their offering, a food offering to the LORD, and their sin offering before the LORD for their mistake. The whole congregation of the Israelites will be forgiven, and so will the outsider living among them, because the whole people was caught up in the mistake.
When a single person sins unintentionally, that person is to bring a year-old female goat for a sin offering. The priest is to make atonement before the LORD for the one who went astray and sinned unintentionally. Once atonement is made, that person will be forgiven. Whether native-born among the Israelites or an outsider living among them, you are to have one law for anyone who does wrong unintentionally. But anyone who sins defiantly, whether native-born or outsider, insults the LORD, and that person must be cut off from among the people. That person has scorned what the LORD said and broken his commandment, and so must be cut off completely. The guilt rests on them.’”
Once, when the Israelites were in the wilderness, some of them came upon a man collecting wood on the Sabbath day. Those who caught him collecting wood brought him to Moses and Aaron and the whole congregation. They held him under guard, because it had not yet been made clear what was to be done with him.
Then the LORD said to Moses, “The man must be put to death. The whole congregation is to stone him outside the camp.” So the whole congregation took him outside the camp and stoned him to death, as the LORD had commanded Moses.
The LORD said to Moses, “Speak to the Israelites. Tell them that in every generation they are to make tassels for the corners of their clothing and fasten a blue cord to the tassel at each corner. ‘Whenever you see this tassel, it will remind you of all the commandments of the LORD, so that you do them and do not wander after your own heart and your own eyes, following them in unfaithfulness, so that you remember and do all my commandments and are holy to your God. I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt to be your God. I am the LORD your God.’”
