Revelation 16

Open Word Bible

I heard a great voice speak from the temple to the seven angels: “Go and empty the seven bowls of God’s fury onto the earth.”

The first angel went off and emptied his bowl on the earth, and foul, painful sores came on the people who bore the mark of the beast and worshiped its image.

When the second angel emptied his bowl into the sea, it became like the blood of a corpse, and everything that lived in the sea died.

The third angel emptied his bowl into the rivers and springs, and they turned to blood. Then I heard the angel of the waters say: “Just are you, the one who is and who was, the Holy One, for you have judged in this way. Because they poured out the blood of your holy people and prophets, blood is what you have given them to drink. It is what they have earned.” Then I heard the altar reply, “Yes, Lord God, the Almighty: your judgments are true and right.”

When the fourth angel emptied his bowl on the sun, it was given power to burn people with fire. Burned by the fierce heat, people blasphemed the name of the God who had power over these plagues; they would not repent and give him glory.

Then the fifth angel emptied his bowl over the beast’s throne, and darkness fell on its kingdom. In their anguish people chewed their tongues, and they blasphemed the God of heaven for their pains and their sores; yet they did not turn from their deeds.

When the sixth angel emptied his bowl on the great river, the Euphrates, its water was dried up so that a road would be ready for the kings from the sunrise. And out of the dragon’s mouth, the beast’s mouth, and the false prophet’s mouth I saw three unclean spirits come, like frogs. These are spirits of demons, doing signs, and they go out to the kings of all the world to assemble them for war on the great day of God, the Almighty. “Look, I come like a thief! How blessed is anyone who keeps watch and holds on to their clothes, and so will not walk about naked with their shame on view!” And the spirits brought the kings together at the place called in Hebrew Armageddon.

When the seventh angel emptied his bowl into the air, a great voice came out of the temple, from the throne: “It is done!” Lightning, loud sounds, and thunder followed, and an earthquake struck so violent that nothing like it had ever happened since human beings first lived on the earth. The great city was torn into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell. Babylon the great was not forgotten before God: he made her drink the cup of the wine of his raging anger. Every island ran away, and the mountains were found no more. Hailstones weighing about seventy-five pounds each came down out of the sky on people, and they blasphemed God over the plague of hail, because the plague of it was very severe.
