Ezekiel 48

Open Word Bible

These are the names of the tribes and their portions. At the northern end, along the Hethlon road to Lebo-hamath, as far as Hazar-enan on the Damascus border, with Hamath lying to the north, reaching from the east side to the west, Dan is to have one portion. Asher is to have one portion, bordering Dan from the east side to the west side. Naphtali is to have one portion, bordering Asher from the east side to the west side. Manasseh is to have one portion, bordering Naphtali from the east side to the west side. Ephraim is to have one portion, bordering Manasseh from the east side to the west side. Reuben is to have one portion, bordering Ephraim from the east side to the west side. Judah is to have one portion, bordering Reuben from the east side to the west side. Next to Judah’s territory, from the east side to the west side, will be the special portion you are to set apart. It is to be about 8 1/4 miles wide, and as long as one of the tribal portions from the east side to the west, with the sanctuary in the middle of it. The special portion that you are to set apart for the LORD is to be about 8 1/4 miles long and about 3 1/3 miles wide. This holy portion is to belong to the priests. It is to measure about 8 1/4 miles on the north side, about 3 1/3 miles on the west side, about 3 1/3 miles on the east side and about 8 1/4 miles on the south side. The sanctuary of the LORD is to be in the middle of it. It is for the consecrated priests, the descendants of Zadok, who carried out my service. They did not stray when the Israelites strayed, as the Levites did.

It will be a special gift to them from the special portion of the land, a most holy area next to the territory of the Levites. Alongside the priests’ territory the Levites are to have an area about 8 1/4 miles long and about 3 1/3 miles wide. The whole length is to be about 8 1/4 miles and the width about 3 1/3 miles. They must not sell any of it or exchange it, and this best part of the land must not pass to anyone else, for it is holy to the LORD. The remaining area, about 1 2/3 miles wide and about 8 1/4 miles long, is to be for the ordinary use of the city, for houses and for open land. The city is to be in the middle of it. These are to be its measurements: the north side about 1 1/2 miles, the south side about 1 1/2 miles, the east side about 1 1/2 miles and the west side about 1 1/2 miles. The city’s open land is to be about 440 feet wide on the north, about 440 feet on the south, about 440 feet on the east and about 440 feet on the west. The rest of the length alongside the holy portion, about 3 1/3 miles on the east and about 3 1/3 miles on the west, will run alongside the holy portion. Its crops are to be food for the workers of the city. The workers of the city, who will come from all the tribes of Israel, are to farm it. The whole special portion is to be a square, about 8 1/4 miles on each side. You are to set apart the holy portion together with the city’s property. What is left on both sides of the holy portion and the city’s property is to belong to the prince. It will reach east from the about 8 1/4 miles of the special portion to the eastern border, and west from the about 8 1/4 miles to the western border, alongside the tribal portions. This will belong to the prince. The holy portion, with the sanctuary of the temple, will be in the middle of it. The property of the Levites and the property of the city will lie in the middle of the prince’s land. The land between the territory of Judah and the territory of Benjamin is to belong to the prince. As for the rest of the tribes: Benjamin is to have one portion, from the east side to the west side. Simeon is to have one portion, bordering Benjamin from the east side to the west side. Issachar is to have one portion, bordering Simeon from the east side to the west side. Zebulun is to have one portion, bordering Issachar from the east side to the west side. Gad is to have one portion, bordering Zebulun from the east side to the west side. On the south side of Gad’s territory, the border is to run from Tamar to the waters of Meribath-kadesh, along the Wadi of Egypt to the Great Sea. This is the land you are to divide by lot as an inheritance among the tribes of Israel, and these are their portions, declares the Lord GOD.

These are to be the exits of the city: On the north side, which is about 1 1/2 miles long, there will be three gates: one for Reuben, one for Judah and one for Levi. The gates of the city are to be named after the tribes of Israel. On the east side, which is about 1 1/2 miles long, there will be three gates: one for Joseph, one for Benjamin and one for Dan. On the south side, which measures about 1 1/2 miles, there will be three gates: one for Simeon, one for Issachar and one for Zebulun. On the west side, which is about 1 1/2 miles long, there will be three gates: one for Gad, one for Asher and one for Naphtali. The distance around the city will be about 6 miles. And from that day the name of the city will be The LORD Is There.
