So then, my beloved, you have always obeyed. Keep at it now, not only as if I were there with you, but much more because I am away: with fear and trembling, keep working out your own salvation.
For it is God who is at work in you, producing both the wanting and the doing, for his own good pleasure.
This is why you must put every effort into this: let your faith provide goodness, and goodness knowledge, knowledge self-control, self-control endurance, endurance godliness, godliness affection for your fellow believers, and that affection love.
It is God’s grace that has made me what I am, and his grace to me was not wasted. Instead, I have toiled harder than all of them, though it was not I but God’s grace working with me.
Our desire is that each of you show the same eagerness right to the end, until your hope is fully assured.
I do not mean that I already have all this, or that I have already been made perfect. But I keep pursuing it, trying to take hold of it, because Christ has taken hold of me.
Make every effort to stand before God tested and approved, a worker with nothing to be ashamed of, who handles the message of truth correctly.
This is the goal I toil for, struggling by his energy, which is powerfully at work in me.
Have nothing to do with godless and silly myths. Instead, train yourself in godliness.
Never let your eagerness flag; be on fire in the Spirit; serve the Lord.
So, brothers and sisters, work even harder to make sure that God’s call and choice of you stand firm; for as you do these things you will never trip and fall.
