God designed marriage, family, and the raising of children as places to reflect his love and faithfulness. He calls husbands, wives, parents, and children to honor one another in the Lord. These verses bring his wisdom and grace into the home.
This is why a man leaves his father and mother and clings to his wife, and they become one flesh.
Husbands, love your wives the way Christ loved the church and handed himself over for her.
Fathers, do not drive your children to anger. Instead, bring them up with the Lord’s training and correction.
Children are a gift handed down from the LORD; the fruit of the womb is a reward.
Honor your father and your mother. Then your days will be long in the land the LORD your God is going to give you.
Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not leave it.
If serving the LORD seems wrong to you, then make your choice today. Whom will you serve? The gods your ancestors served beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites, whose land you now live in? My household and I will serve the LORD.”
But to return to you: each husband must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must see to it that she respects her husband.
