Isaiah 60
Open Word Bible
Rise up and shine, for your light has come; the glory of the LORD has dawned over you. Look: darkness will cover the earth and a heavy gloom will lie on the peoples, but the LORD will rise like the dawn over you, and his glory will be seen above you. Nations will make their way to your light, and kings to the bright glow of your sunrise. Look up and gaze around you: they are all gathering and coming to you. Your sons will arrive from far away, and your daughters will be carried on the hip like little children. Then you will look, and your face will glow; your heart will tremble and open wide, because the riches of the sea will be poured out on you and the wealth of the nations will come to you. Caravans of camels will fill your land, young camels from Midian and Ephah. Everyone from Sheba will come, bringing gold and frankincense and announcing the deeds of the LORD that deserve praise. Every flock of Kedar will be herded to you, and the rams of Nebaioth will be at your service. They will be offered on my altar and I will accept them, and I will adorn the house that is my splendor. Who are these, speeding along like a cloud, like doves returning to their roosting holes? The coastlands wait in hope for me; the ships of Tarshish sail first, carrying your children home from distant places, and their silver and gold along with them, for the name of the LORD your God, for the Holy One of Israel, since he has made you glorious. People from foreign lands will rebuild your walls, and their kings will wait on you. In my anger I struck you down, but in my goodwill I have shown you tender mercy. Your gates will never be closed; day and night they will be left open, so that the riches of the nations may be carried in to you, with their kings brought along in the procession. Any nation or kingdom that refuses to serve you will be destroyed; such nations will be left in complete ruin. The glory of Lebanon will be brought to you, the juniper, the elm and the box tree side by side, to adorn the site of my sanctuary, and I will bring honor to the place where my feet rest. The children of those who oppressed you will come to you with heads bowed; everyone who looked down on you will fall at your feet. They will name you City of the LORD, Zion of the Holy One of Israel. You were abandoned and despised, a place no traveler would cross; but I will make you a source of pride for all time, a delight to one generation after another. Nations will feed you with their milk, and kings will nurse you like a child at the breast. Then you will know that I, the LORD, am the one who saves you, your Redeemer, the Mighty One of Jacob. In place of bronze I will bring you gold; in place of iron, silver; bronze where there was wood, and iron where there were stones. I will make peace your governor and righteousness your ruler. The sound of violence will never again be heard in your land, nor of ruin and wreckage inside your borders. You will give your walls the name Salvation and your gates the name Praise. No longer will the sun be what lights your day, nor the glow of the moon what shines on you; the LORD will be your light for all time, and your God will be your splendor. Your sun will set no more, and your moon will never fade; the LORD will be your light for all time, and your days of grief will be over. Every one of your people will be righteous, and the land will be theirs for all time. They are a young branch my own hand has set in the ground, the work of my hands, to show my beauty. The smallest family among you will grow to a thousand, the weakest into a strong nation. I am the LORD; when the time is right, I will bring it about quickly.
