Exodus 31

Open Word Bible

The LORD said to Moses, “Take note: I have chosen Bezalel by name, the son of Uri, son of Hur, from the tribe of Judah, and I have filled him with the Spirit of God, so that he has wisdom, understanding and knowledge in every kind of work, to think out artistic designs and to carry them out in gold, silver and bronze, to cut stones for mounting, to carve wood, and to do every kind of skilled work. I myself have also named Oholiab son of Ahisamach, from the tribe of Dan, to be his partner. Into the hearts of all who are wise of heart I have put wisdom, so that they will make all that I have commanded you: the tent of meeting, the ark of the testimony with the mercy seat on top of it, and all the other furnishings of the tent; the table and its utensils, the lampstand of pure gold with all its utensils, the altar of incense, the altar of burnt offering with all its utensils, the basin with its stand, the finely woven garments, both the holy garments for Aaron the priest and the garments for his sons when they serve as priests, the oil for anointing, and the spiced incense for the sanctuary. In every detail they are to follow what I have commanded you.”

The LORD also said to Moses, “Tell the Israelites: ‘Whatever else you do, keep my Sabbaths. The Sabbath is a sign between me and you for all your generations, so that you will know that I am the LORD, the one who sets you apart as holy. So you are to keep the Sabbath, for it is a holy day for you. If anyone profanes it, that person must be put to death. If anyone works on it, that person will be cut off from among their people. There are six days in which work may be done. The seventh day, though, is a Sabbath of full rest, set apart as holy to the LORD. Anyone who works on the Sabbath day must be put to death. The Israelites are to keep the Sabbath, holding to it generation after generation as a covenant for all time. It is a sign between me and the Israelites for all time, because in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, and on the seventh day he stopped working and was refreshed.’”

When he had finished speaking with Moses on Mount Sinai, he gave him the two tablets of the testimony, tablets of stone inscribed by the finger of God.
