1 Chronicles 20

Open Word Bible

When the year came round again, at the season when kings set out on campaign, Joab led out the army in force. He ravaged the land of the Ammonites, then came and besieged Rabbah. But David himself stayed behind in Jerusalem. Joab attacked Rabbah and tore it down. David took the crown from their king’s head. He found that it weighed about 75 pounds of gold, and it held a precious stone. It was placed on David’s head. He also brought a great amount of plunder out of the city. He brought out the people who were in the city and cut them with saws, with iron picks and with more saws. David did the same to all the towns of the Ammonites. Then David and all the troops returned to Jerusalem.

After this, war broke out with the Philistines at Gezer. That was when Sibbecai the Hushathite killed Sippai, one of the descendants of the Rephaim, and the Philistines were subdued. There was another battle with the Philistines, in which Elhanan son of Jair struck down Lahmi the brother of Goliath of Gath, whose spear had a shaft like a weaver’s beam. There was another battle at Gath, where there was a man of great size with six fingers on each of his hands and six toes on each of his feet, twenty-four altogether. He too was descended from the Rapha. When he taunted Israel, Jonathan son of Shimea, David’s brother, killed him. These were descendants of the Rapha in Gath, and they fell at the hands of David and his men.
