1 Chronicles 14
Open Word Bible
Hiram king of Tyre sent envoys to David, with cedar logs, stonemasons and woodworkers, to build him a palace. Then David knew that the LORD had made him secure as king over Israel, and had raised his kingdom very high for the sake of his people Israel.
In Jerusalem David took more wives, and became the father of more sons and daughters. The names of the children born to him in Jerusalem are these: Shammua, Shobab, Nathan, Solomon, Ibhar, Elishua, Elpelet, Nogah, Nepheg, Japhia, Elishama, Beeliada and Eliphelet. News reached the Philistines that David had been anointed king over all Israel, so the whole Philistine force went up to hunt for him. But David heard of it and went out to face them. Now the Philistines had come and made a raid on the Valley of Rephaim. So David inquired of God, “Am I to go up against the Philistines? Will you hand them over to me?” The LORD answered him, “Go up, and I will hand them over to you.” So they went up to Baal-perazim, and David defeated them there. He said, “God has burst through my enemies by my hand, like water breaking through.” That is why that place was named Baal-perazim. The Philistines left their gods behind there, and at David’s command they were burned up.
Once again the Philistines made a raid on the valley. When David inquired of God again, God answered him, “Do not go up after them. Circle away from them and attack them opposite the balsam trees. The moment you hear the sound of marching along the tops of the balsam trees, go out to battle, for God has gone out ahead of you to strike down the Philistine army.” David did exactly what God had commanded him, and they struck down the Philistine army all the way from Gibeon to Gezer. So David’s fame spread through every land, and the LORD made all the nations dread him.
