What Colossians 3:23 means

Paul writes this in a passage addressed partly to slaves — people whose work was neither chosen nor admired. The instruction reframes the audience of ordinary labour rather than changing the labour.

‘Whatever you do’ leaves nothing out: unnoticed work, thankless work, work for a difficult employer. If it is finally done for the Lord, then no honest task is beneath attention. It travels well into any job.
