Then he said to everyone, “Anyone who wants to come after me must say no to themselves, pick up their cross every day, and keep following me.

I am no longer the one who lives; Christ lives in me. Whatever life I still have in the flesh is a life lived by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and handed himself over for my sake.

If we are children, we are also heirs. We are God’s heirs, and we inherit alongside Christ, if we suffer together with him so that we will also be glorified together with him.

Here is a saying you can rely on: If we died with him, we will also live with him. If we endure, we will also reign with him. If we deny him, he will also deny us.

Anyone who sets out to save their own life will lose it. But anyone who loses their life because of me will save it.

Jesus looked at him and loved him. “You are missing one thing,” he told him. “Go and sell everything you own, and give the money to the poor. Then you will have treasure in heaven. After that, come and follow me.”

Now I am glad to suffer for your sake. In my own body I am completing what is still lacking in Christ’s afflictions, for the sake of his body, the church.

Those who want to secure their own life will lose it, and those who lose their life for my sake will find it.
