More than that, we boast even in our troubles, because we know that trouble leads to endurance, endurance to proven character, and proven character to hope.

Indeed, everyone who waits for you will be spared disgrace; it is those who betray others for nothing who will be disgraced.

Kings will look after your children as guardians, and their princesses will nurse them for you. They will bow low before you with their faces to the ground and lick the dust off your feet. Then you will know that I am the LORD, and that none who wait in hope for me end up ashamed.

For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes in him will not be put to shame.”

It was in hope that we were saved. But a hope that is already in sight is no hope at all. Who goes on hoping for what is already in front of them? But if what we hope for is something we do not yet see, we keep waiting for it with endurance.

I eagerly expect and hope that I will not be put to shame in anything. Instead, with all boldness, now as always, Christ will be shown to be great in my body, whether through my life or through my death.

They cried out to you and escaped; they relied on you and were never disgraced.

He did this so that through two things that cannot change, and in which God cannot possibly lie, we who have fled for refuge would have strong encouragement to seize the hope placed before us. This hope is ours as an anchor for the soul, one that holds safe and firm and reaches into the inner place behind the curtain.

For this is what Scripture says: “See, I am placing in Zion a stone, a cornerstone, chosen and precious, and no one who believes in him will ever be put to shame.”
