Proverbs 12
Open Word Bible
To love discipline is to love knowledge; to hate correction is plain stupidity. A good person wins favor from the LORD, but he condemns the one who plots evil. No one is made secure by wickedness, but the roots of the righteous cannot be dislodged. A capable wife is a crown on her husband’s head, but a wife who disgraces him is decay in his bones. The plans of the righteous are fair, but the advice of the wicked is full of deceit. When the wicked speak, they are setting an ambush to kill, but what the upright say rescues them. The wicked are overthrown and gone, but the house of the righteous will stand firm. People are praised for their good sense, but the one with a twisted mind is held in contempt. Better to be a nobody with a servant than to put on airs and have nothing to eat. The righteous take care of their animals, but even the kindness of the wicked is cruel. Those who work their land will have plenty to eat, but those who chase fantasies have no sense. The wicked want what evil people have caught, but the root of the righteous bears fruit. The wicked are trapped by their sinful talk, but the righteous get out of trouble. People are filled with good things by the fruit of their words, and the work of their hands comes back to them. Fools think their own way is right, but the wise listen to advice. A fool shows annoyance at once, but a prudent person overlooks an insult. An honest witness tells what is right, but a false witness tells lies. Thoughtless words cut like a sword, but what the wise say heals. Truthful words endure forever, but a lie is over in the blink of an eye. There is deceit in the hearts of those who plot evil, but joy for those who work for peace. No real harm comes to the righteous, but the wicked are full of trouble. The LORD detests lying lips, but people who keep faith are his delight. Sensible people keep what they know to themselves, but the minds of fools blurt out folly. Hard workers will end up in charge, but the lazy will be made to work for others. Worry weighs down the heart, but a kind word lifts it up. The righteous give their friends good direction, but the road the wicked take leads them astray. The lazy never cook what they catch, but the diligent value what they have. On the road of righteousness there is life; along that path there is no death.
