About Philippians
Philippians is warm and personal, written to partners who had supported Paul from the beginning. Its recurring note is joy, made striking by the fact that he writes in chains. At its centre is a hymn describing Christ emptying himself and taking the form of a servant, offered as the pattern for humility. The closing chapter contains his statement about contentment learned in plenty and in want.
