Hebrews 3
Open Word Bible
So then, holy brothers and sisters, partners in a heavenly calling, turn your minds to Jesus, the apostle and high priest of the confession we make. He was faithful to God, who appointed him, as Moses too was faithful in God’s house. For Jesus has been judged worthy of more glory than Moses, as surely as the builder of a house is given more honor than the building. Every house, after all, has someone who built it; and the one who built everything is God. Moses was faithful in all God’s house as a servant, bearing witness to what God would speak in days to come. But Christ is faithful as the Son, set over God’s house. And we are that house, if we keep hold of our confidence and of the hope we take pride in.
So, as the Holy Spirit says, “Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts as happened in the rebellion, on that day of testing in the wilderness, where your ancestors put me to the test and tried me, and saw my works for forty years. That is why I was angry with this generation, and I said, ‘Their hearts are forever wandering; they have never come to know my ways.’ So in my anger I swore an oath: ‘They will never enter my rest.’” Watch out, brothers and sisters, so that none of you has a wicked heart that refuses to believe and turns away from the living God. Instead, encourage one another day by day, while there is still a “Today,” so that sin does not deceive any of you and make you hard. For we have become partners of Christ, provided that we keep the confidence we had at the start firm and steady to the very end. As Scripture says: “Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts as happened in the rebellion.” Who were the people who heard and yet rebelled? Was it not every one of those who came out of Egypt with Moses as their leader? And who was it that God was angry with for forty years? Was it not the people who had sinned, and whose corpses lay fallen in the wilderness? And who did God swear would never enter his rest, if not those who refused to obey? So we see that it was unbelief that kept them from entering.
