What Romans 3:24 means
This verse arrives immediately after Paul’s verdict that all have sinned and fall short of God’s glory. The contrast is deliberate and abrupt: the same people, in the very next breath, are declared righteous.
Three terms do the work — justified (a legal verdict), by his grace as a gift (no payment), through redemption (a price paid elsewhere). Together they explain how God can both take sin seriously and acquit sinners, which is the question Romans has been building toward.
