Suppose a brother or sister has no proper clothes and not enough food for the day, and one of you tells them, “Go in peace; keep warm and eat well,” but you do not give them what the body needs. What use is that?

Suppose someone has enough of this world’s goods and notices a brother or sister in need, yet shuts their heart against them. How can the love of God remain in such a person?

You were called to be free, brothers and sisters. Only do not let your freedom become an opening for the flesh. Instead, through love, be slaves to one another.

The King will answer them, ‘Truly I tell you, each time you did it for one of these my brothers and sisters, even the least of them, you did it for me.’

It is the same with faith: if it has no works, it is dead in itself.

Dear friends, since this is how God loved us, we too should love one another.

So whenever we have the chance, we should do good to everyone, and above all to those who belong to the family of faith.

And do not forget to be kind and to share with one another: God delights in sacrifices of this kind.

Let your love be real, with no pretense. Loathe evil and stick to what is good.

Then a Samaritan, who was on a journey, came to where the man lay. When he saw him, his heart went out to him. He went over to him, poured oil and wine on his wounds and bound them up. Then he lifted him onto his own animal, took him to an inn, and looked after him.
