Second Corinthians is the most personal of Paul’s letters, written after a painful visit and a severe letter. He speaks candidly about affliction, comfort, and the treasure carried in clay jars. The middle chapters make a careful appeal for the collection for Jerusalem. The closing section answers rivals who questioned his credentials, and Paul answers by listing his sufferings and the thorn he was not spared.
