2 Chronicles 3
Open Word Bible
In Jerusalem, on Mount Moriah, Solomon began building the house of the LORD. It was there that the LORD had appeared to his father David, at the site David had prepared, on the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite. He began to build in the fourth year of his reign, on the second day of the second month. These are the measurements Solomon laid down for building the house of God: measured by the old standard, the length was about 90 feet and the width about 30 feet. The porch in front of the temple was about 30 feet long, matching the width of the temple, and about 180 feet high. He overlaid its inside with pure gold. He paneled the main hall with cypress wood and overlaid it with fine gold, and he decorated it with palm trees and chains. He adorned the temple with precious stones to make it beautiful, and the gold he used was gold from Parvaim. He overlaid the temple with gold, its beams, its thresholds, its walls and its doors, and he carved cherubim on the walls.
He made the most holy place. Its length, matching the width of the temple, was about 30 feet, and its width was about 30 feet. He overlaid it with fine gold weighing about 45,000 pounds. The gold for the nails weighed about 1 1/4 pounds. He also overlaid the upper rooms with gold. He made two cherubim of sculptured work in the most holy place, and they were overlaid with gold. The wings of the cherubim measured about 30 feet in all. One wing of the first cherub, about 7 1/2 feet long, touched the wall of the temple, and its other wing, also about 7 1/2 feet, touched the wing of the second cherub. One wing of the second cherub, about 7 1/2 feet long, touched the other wall of the temple, and its other wing, also about 7 1/2 feet, met the wing of the first cherub. The wings of these cherubim spread out about 30 feet. They stood on their feet, facing the main hall.
He made the inner curtain of blue, purple and crimson yarn and fine linen, and worked cherubim into its design.
In front of the temple he made two pillars about 52 feet long, each with a capital about 7 1/2 feet high on top.
He made chains in the inner sanctuary and put them on top of the pillars. He also made a hundred pomegranates and put them on the chains. He erected the pillars in front of the temple, one on the right and the other on the left. The pillar on the right he named Jachin, and the pillar on the left he named Boaz.
