2 Chronicles 17
Open Word Bible
His son Jehoshaphat became king in his place, and he made himself strong against Israel. He stationed troops in every fortified city of Judah, and he placed garrisons in the land of Judah and in those Ephraimite towns his father Asa had taken. The LORD was with Jehoshaphat, because he followed the earlier ways of his ancestor David and did not seek the Baals, but sought the God of his father and followed his commandments, and did not act as Israel did. The LORD made the kingdom secure under his rule. All Judah brought gifts to Jehoshaphat, and he had great riches and honor. His heart was bold in the ways of the LORD, and he also removed the high places and the Asherah poles from Judah.
In the third year of his reign he sent out his officials to teach in the cities of Judah: Ben-hail, Obadiah, Zechariah, Nethanel and Micaiah. With them were the Levites Shemaiah, Nethaniah, Zebadiah, Asahel, Shemiramoth, Jehonathan, Adonijah, Tobijah and Tob-adonijah, and with them the priests Elishama and Jehoram. They taught in Judah, having the book of the law of the LORD with them. They went around to all the cities of Judah and taught the people. The dread of the LORD was on all the kingdoms of the lands around Judah, so they did not go to war against Jehoshaphat. Some of the Philistines brought Jehoshaphat gifts and silver as tribute, and the Arabs also brought him flocks: 7,700 rams and 7,700 male goats.
Jehoshaphat grew steadily more and more powerful, and he built fortresses and store cities in Judah. He had large supplies in the cities of Judah, and soldiers, mighty warriors, in Jerusalem. This was their muster by ancestral families. From Judah, the commanders of thousands: Adnah was the commander, and he had 300,000 mighty warriors with him,
next to him was Jehohanan the commander, and with him 280,000,
next to him was Amasiah son of Zichri, who had volunteered himself for the LORD, and with him 200,000 mighty warriors.
From Benjamin: Eliada, a mighty warrior, and with him 200,000 men armed with bow and shield,
next to him was Jehozabad, and with him 180,000 men armed for war.
These were the men who served the king, besides those he had stationed in the fortified cities throughout Judah.
