About Philemon
Philemon is a single-chapter letter about one man. Onesimus, who had run from Philemon’s household, has become a Christian through Paul and is being sent back. Paul does not command; he appeals on the basis of love, offers to pay whatever is owed, and asks Philemon to receive him no longer as a slave but as a beloved brother. The letter works by placing the gospel inside an ordinary, awkward situation.
