About Nahum
Nahum announces judgment on the same city Jonah saw spared. Assyria had returned to violence and empire, and the book’s vivid poetry describes the siege and collapse of Nineveh. For a small nation living under Assyrian threat this was not abstract theology but relief. Its opening holds the tension the book lives in: God is slow to anger and good to those who take refuge in him, and he does not leave the guilty unpunished.
