Hosea 1
Open Word Bible
The LORD’s word came to Hosea son of Beeri during the reigns of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah over Judah, and during the reign of Jeroboam son of Joash over Israel. When the LORD first spoke through Hosea, the LORD said to him, “Go, marry a promiscuous wife and have children born of promiscuity, for the land is wholly given to prostitution; it has turned away from following the LORD.” So Hosea went and married Gomer daughter of Diblaim, and she became pregnant and bore him a son. Then the LORD said to him, “Name him Jezreel, for in a little while I will punish the house of Jehu for the blood shed at Jezreel, and I will bring the kingdom of the house of Israel to an end. On that day I will break Israel’s bow in the valley of Jezreel.” Gomer became pregnant again and gave birth to a daughter. Then the LORD said to Hosea, “Name her No Compassion, for I will no longer show compassion to the house of Israel or forgive them in any way. But I will show compassion to the house of Judah, and I will save them by the LORD their God. I will not save them by bow or sword or battle, or by horses and horsemen.” After Gomer had weaned No Compassion, she became pregnant and gave birth to a son. Then the LORD said, “Name him Not My People, because you are not my people, and I will not be yours.”
Yet the number of the people of Israel will be like the sand of the sea, which no one can measure or count. In the very place where they were told, “You are not my people,” they will be told, “You are children of the living God.” The people of Judah and the people of Israel will be gathered together. They will appoint one leader for themselves and will go up out of the land, for the day of Jezreel will be great.
