About Ezra
Ezra records two returns from Babylon: the first under Zerubbabel, which rebuilds the altar and temple against local opposition, and the second led by Ezra the scribe, who comes to teach the law. The rebuilt temple is smaller than the one remembered, and the people weep and rejoice at once. The book’s concern is a community re-forming itself around God’s word.
