1 John 1
Open Word Bible
What was there from the beginning, what we have heard, what we have seen with our own eyes, what we looked at closely and touched with our hands—this is what we are speaking about: the word of life. That life was revealed. We have seen it, and we testify to it, and we announce to you the eternal life that was with the Father and was revealed to us. We announce to you as well what we have seen and heard, so that you too may have fellowship with us. The fellowship we share is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ. We put these things in writing so that our joy may be complete.
Now this is the message we heard from him and are declaring to you: God is light, and in him there is no darkness, not the least. If we claim to have fellowship with him while we go on walking in the darkness, we are lying and are not living by the truth. But if we walk in the light, just as he is in the light, we share fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, goes on cleansing us from every sin. If we claim that we are free from sin, we are fooling ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous: he will forgive our sins and cleanse us from every kind of wrongdoing. If we claim that we have never sinned, we are calling him a liar, and his word is not in us.
